Amy LaVere and Volatile Baby

Volatile Baby came by the studio today. The band out of Charlotte has just finished up their new CD with help from David Chliders and the Modern don Juans, Carlene Carter, daughter of June Carter Cash, Jim Brock, former drummer for Kathy Mattea, Don Dixon and Wayne Jernigan. They brought along a friend and fellow cast member from the new production 0f "Wildwood Flowers" . The memories of June, Mother Maybelle and the Carter Sisters are showcased in this play. The talents of Volatile Baby are on display as this play features such songs as “Ring of Fire” and “Keep on the Sunnyside.” Their new CD, "Traveling Light", which is sort inspired by the play, has just arrived in their hands and they brought a copy for the station. We've already started playing it! We also got them to record quick live versions of "Ring of Fire" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" for us. They tell us the CD will be on sale at their gigs and at Wildwood. They also have plans for a CD release party later in the Month.

May23rd in studio with Amy LaVere.

Amy came out with a very good first solo album in 2005. It was called "This World is Not My Home." She was out doing the radio promo stuff and came by the studio for a live performance. I like the CD but seeing her live won me over. I've been a fan from that day. I'm vary happy that her new CD "Anchors and Anvils" has now arrived on my desk. Amy is now going out on the road for a seven week tour in support of the new release. In a couple of weeks we will have her stop by the wgwg studios again for more great live music. I'll let you know when we have the time firmed up.
