NEW YORK (AP) _ Levon Helm of The Band has gone through a lot since his last solo album. For one thing, it's been 25 years since he made a solo album. For another, he's had throat cancer that took away his singing voice and he's had intense treatments for that. On top of that, his recording studio caught fire and 80 percent of it was burned. Helm's new album is a collection of traditional songs he learned growing up in Arkansas, and he also covers songs by Steve Earle and J.B. Lenoir . The album is called "Dirt Farmer" and it comes out October 30th.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ John Rich of Big and Rich and Asleep at the Wheel's Ray Benson are among those scheduled to participate in "Grammys on the Hill" in Washington this Wednesday. The daylong event is aimed at educating members of Congress about the importance of music in everyday life. Senator Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts and Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee will be recognized for their legislative support of the arts and music.

VIENNA, Va. (AP) _ Billy Joe Shaver is performing in Vienna, Virginia, on September 11th. His new gospel album "Everybody's Brother" comes out September 25th. Shaver does a duet with Johnny Cash on the CD called "You Just Can't Beat Jesus Christ." That was recorded in the 1970s. Cash's son John Carter Cash produced the album. Guests on the CD include John Anderson, Kris Kristofferson, Randy Scruggs, Marty Stuart and Tanya Tucker.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ John McEuen has played with most of the big names in music from Johnny Cash to Bob Dylan to the Doors. He's also a founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which celebrated its 41st anniversary last month. The group is famous for its hit album "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and their mega hit "Mr. Bojangles." McEuen says he never gets tired of playing that song, saying it always takes him back in time. He says he doesn't plan on retiring anytime soon, saying what he does isn't work, it's fun. McEuen's done everything from scoring films, to producing concerts to performing solo. He's says if he had to pick one, performing would be his first love. His latest CD is "The Music of The Wild West." Some of the artists appearing on the CD include Marty Stuart, Crystal Gayle and Lyle Lovett.
